What is Cleaning For A Reason?
Cleaning For A Reason is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free home cleanings to cancer patients. Founded in 2006, they have facilitated more than 65,000 free cleanings through a network of over 1,400 partner cleaning companies across the United States and Canada.
Mexi Maids is proud to serve as one of their San Diego partners, providing free cleanings to San Diego County residents undergoing cancer treatment.

We contact the patient directly to schedule the first cleaning.
What Does the Free Cleaning Include?
Each matched patient receives two free general home cleanings, one per month for two months.
Every visit includes kitchen, bathrooms, living room, dining room, and bedrooms. Standard maintenance cleaning covers dusting of surfaces, and mopping and vacuuming of all floors.
The two donated cleanings are general maintenance cleaning, not deep cleans or move-out cleans. If additional services are needed, standard Mexi Maids rates apply.

If you work at a San Diego oncology practice, cancer support organization, or hospice program and want to help your patients access this free resource, we can provide printed nomination flyers, QR codes, and direct patient referral support.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there any cost to the patient?
No. The cleaning is completely free. Mexi Maids donates the service and Cleaning For A Reason facilitates the match at no cost.
Do I need to be in a specific income bracket?
No. There is no income requirement. Any cancer patient actively undergoing treatment or recovering from surgery is eligible.
Can family, friends, or nurses nominate on behalf of the patient?
Yes. Family members, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, oncology social workers, employers, and colleagues can all nominate with the patient’s consent.
Are men and children eligible?
Yes. Cleaning For A Reason serves all cancer patients regardless of gender or age. This includes men, women, and children undergoing cancer treatment.
What if you are at capacity and cannot take my nomination?
Cleaning For A Reason will attempt to match with another San Diego partner. Their match success rate is about 50 percent, well above the industry benchmark of 30 percent.
How long does it take from nomination to first cleaning?
Typically one to three weeks depending on partner availability. If your situation is urgent, mention it in the nomination form.
Do you cover all types of cancer?
Yes. Cleaning For A Reason serves patients with any type of cancer.
